Health Information Management

Program of Study

The Health Information Management Program provides an integrated online/hands-on two-year Associate of Applied Science degree program for the full time student. Students prepare for graduation through on-line lectures, hands-on lab, and supervised instruction within health care facilities throughout Oregon. A successful student must have good reading, time management and study skills. Course materials, group activities, class discussions, and interaction with the instructor are primarily available through the internet. You must be comfortable with instructional technology when you start the Health Information Management program. Lane uses Moodle as their learning management system for instruction. There are no accommodations for outside employment or other individual student commitments while completing program requirements.

Online Technology Requirements

Students meet the minimum requirements listed on Moodle to complete the courses. See Moodle Requirements for details.

 Student Commitment to Online Learning

Students must be self-motivated, able to comprehend information in written form, and have the ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal forms. Students should also be able to research websites, upload and download documents, post discussions, and access email. The courses are not self-paced, but have scheduled weekly due dates for assignments, discussions, and tests. Students should expect to spend 9 – 9 hours per 3 hour credit course to complete assignments, readings, and tests. Instructors are available to answer questions online or by phone related to course topics.

Health Information Management and Medical Coding graduates work at hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing care facilities, and other health care entities.
