Transportation Survey Results

photo of Bike Lane bikesLane's 2014 Transportation Survey was distributed electronically to all Lane students and employees in May 2014.  445 students and 330 employees took the survey representing 4% of students and 29% of employees.  The survey results will help Lane better estimate greenhouse gas emissions from daily commuting and to develop transportation demand management programs that will support more climate-friendly modes of transportation.  Here is a quick summary of some of the survey results:

QUESTION:  What was your primary mode of transportation LAST WEEK?

  • I drove alone - 58%
  • I was dropped off - 2%
  • I carpooled - 7%
  • I rode the bus - 29%
  • I walked - 1%
  • I bicycled - 4%

QUESTION:  What programs or incentives would encourage you to carpool, bus, bike, or walk more frequently?

  • Bike loan program - 10%
  • More secure bike parking - 17%
  • Safe bicycle and/or pedestrian routes to Lane - 33%
  • A bus pass - 46%
  • Carpool matching services, for example Zimride or Drive Less Connect - 15%
  • Carpool only premium parking - 16%
  • Prizes, competitions, and/or awards - 27%
  • A parking fee for single occupant vehicle drivers - 11%
  • Other - 25%
