Sustainable Practices - Climate
Lane has a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2050. "Carbon neutral" means having no net greenhouse gas emissions. The majority of the college's greenhouse gas emissions come from daily commuting by employees and students, purchased electricity, and burning of natural gas for building heat and hot water. Carbon neutrality will be achieved by:
- Implementing transportation demand management projects that will encourage more bus ridership, carpooling, bicycling, and walking.
- Reducing energy use.
- Using fossil-fuel free energy such as that generated by solar panels, geothermal wells, and windmills.
- Offsetting some of our emissions by maintaining the forests on Lane's property.
