"Education and Empowerment"

While students of color make up over 30% of Oregon's total students, a population that continues to increase, the achievement gap has continued to persist. Those of us in academia are called to do our part by providing a safe, welcoming, and enriching learning environment for all students. Academia is a privilege that all students - no matter their socio-economic status or ethnic background - have earned through their hard work and willingness to learn. These same students deserve to be empowered by and through education. This empowerment will have a direct impact on both Oregon's future economy and social responsibility.
