Attendance at an informational meeting about the program is highly recommended. The instructor will be available to answer questions about a career as a Pharmacy Technician.
Pharmacy Technician Certification
Upon successful completion of this 60-hour, two-term course, students who are licensed or applying to be licensed Pharmacy Technicians will be eligible to take the nationally recognized PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam. The course includes pharmacy-specific medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
Students also take the Pharmacy Calculations class and the Medical Terminology in the Pharmacy Practice certification class in addition to the Pharmacy Technician class.
The Pharmacy Calculations class meets Tuesday evenings 6-7 pm, and the Pharmacy Technician Certification class meets on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm. Medical Terminology in the Pharmacy class will meet every Wednesday from 6:30 pm-8 pm
The cost for the Pharmacy Technician certification class is $359 per term plus a textbook (approx. $35). Pharmacy Calculations class cost is $169 and Medical Terminology in the Pharmacy Practice cost is $199 for Fall term 2016.

Cooperative Education
Cooperative Education (co-op) offers students college credit and a grade for on-the-job work experience related to their educational and career goals. Through co-op, students connect theory and practice, develop skills, expand career knowledge, and make contacts for the future. Work schedules and work sites vary. Students must pass a background check, drug screen, personal health insurance and have current immunizations to be eligible.
