April 10, Thursday (7:30 PM - 9:30 PM): Speaker Juan Carlos Arean will be giving a lecture at the Downtown Campus in the Center for Meeting & Learning, Rooms 113-114. Juan Carlos Arean is a senior program director at the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) in the United States. Since 1991, he has worked to engage men across different cultures to become better fathers, intimate partners, and allies to end domestic violence and achieve gender equity. For ove a decade, he worked at the Men's Resource Center for Change in various capacities, including as director of the Men Overcoming Violence Program. he also worked as a sexual assault prevention specialist at Harvard University. Mr Arean is co-author of various articles and educational tools for men, including Breaking the Cycle: Fathering After Violence, and an on-line toolkit for engaging men and boys in violence prevention. He has been instrumental in developing FVPF's national initiative Coaching Boys into Men and recently helped produce the ground-breaking documentary, Something My Father Would Do: Overcoming Legacies of Family Violence. Mr. Arean is an active trainer who has led hundreds of workshops and presentations throughout the United States, as well as in Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Russia, Sweden, Austria, and the United Nations.

March 13, Thursday (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm): Living and Learning in Perpetual Fear: Understanding Immigration Policy while Serving Undocumented Students in College (Center for Meeting & Learning, Room 226) DACA. DREAMers. Mixed Status Families. Tuition-Equity. These are all descriptors of the complexities of who and what must be addressed by colleges across the country. These issues intersect with undocumented students, their families and challenge us in how to serve them. Federal policy and political debate has been cumbersome, heated and polarizing. You are invited to become more knowledgeable about this topic. Co-Presenters: Leslie Soriano-Cervantes, Counselor LCC; Javier Cervantes, Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion LBCC. The presentation will cover the DACA/DREAM Act, DACA renewal pointers, status of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Oregon immigration policy issues ,and techniques on how to create safe spaces when undocumented students disclose their immigration status. February 21, Friday (1:30 pm - 3:30 pm): LGBTQIA Panelists: "Coming Out" Exercise for Lane's Counseling Department. Lane Alumni, Ken Bartlett, will conduct this "Coming Out" exercise, which leads into the panelists sharing their coming out stories. This is usually followed by a discussion about students and staff experiences at Lane, and how we can work better with LGBTQIA staff and students to create a more welcoming, inclusive, and respectful working and learning environment.
