Downtown Campus (DC)
Project Status - Construction Complete
About the Downtown Campus
Renewing Lane Community College facilities in downtown Eugene was approved by voters as part of a 15-year, $83 million bond passed in November 2008.
Initial plans to renovate Lane's current but antiquated building at 11th and Willamette evolved into the exciting prospect of constructing a new, signature building at 10th and Charnelton across from the city library.
This prospect would allow the college to increase training and services to students at an accessible, convenient location while meeting its sustainability goals, and help the city achieve much needed downtown revitalization.
Lane would consolidate current downtown offerings-continuing education, business development and training, and senior programming-and add energy management and renewable energy training programs whose students could use the building itself as a green technology learning lab.
Strong public support has emerged in surveys, at public forums and meetings, and in the media.
Formal discussions between the college and the city began in September 2009 and a feasibility study was completed in March 2010.
The study calls for a 90,000 square foot campus that models energy and design innovations.
The current estimated cost of the project is $35 million funded by $9 million from the bond, $8 million from the state, $8 million from the city, and $5 million in tax credits. The remaining $5 million would be a combination of state and federal tax credits, energy tax credits, and federal grants.
Depending on final funding, the college could launch a fast-track construction schedule and open in fall 2012. Otherwise, the campus would open in fall 2013.
