Employee Wellness Classes

Wellness Fall Schedule 2016

Take time to care for your most valuable resource, your health. LIFE (Lasting Improvements for Employees) events are open to all Lane employees, their spouses/domestic partners and their dependents (16 years or older), along with retirees. Weight training

Anything Goes - Cardio and Core
Every class is something different and you never know what you’re going to get because it is a surprise every time.  We will focus on aerobic and core fitness using a variety of techniques and equipment. All fitness levels are welcome as you work at your own intensity. Each class ends with a cool-down to promote relaxation and flexibility. This class will also compliment the Tuesday/Thursday 4 p.m. class that focuses more on strength and agility. (Free)

The A.B.C.'s (Alignment, Balance and Cardio) for a Stronger Body
Improve your balance and enjoy an increase in muscle tone, strength and overall body fitness. This class will condition your cardiovascular system, increase your flexibility, lower your risk for falling, and help to prevent bone density loss. We'll use hand weights, resistance bands, stability balls, steps and your own body weight to improve your strength, balance, coordination and posture. You'll enjoy moving to lively music with cheerful coworkers encouraging you along the way. (Free)

Be B.R.A.W.N.  (Buff, Resilient, Able, Well & Nimble)
Improve your strength, agility, balance and flexibility. You'll strengthen your core and entire body. You'll press, row, squat and move in all directions to improve your overall well-being and make every day activities easier.  This class is for beginners to advanced exercisers as you will work at your own intensity level with fun music and motivating coworkers by your side. This class uses a variety of training methods and compliments the Monday/Wednesday 4 p.m. cardio class.  (Free)

Couch to 5K (3.1 Miles) Training for the Ugliest Sweater 5K
Whether you have been sedentary for years or are currently very active, you’ll get to train at the level you are comfortable with.  You’ll follow recommended guidelines and gain wisdom from coaches who have helped others successfully complete a 5K.  You’ll also learn about fitness tools such as activity monitors and apps that can improve your walking/jogging experience. Flexibility in 20 Minutes
Unwind and relax before going home. We'll focus on stretching and lengthening all major muscle groups using yoga, static stretching, foam rollers, and other techniques to release tight and overused muscles, and improve range of motion. (Free)

Full Figured Fitness
Have fun and get fit in a safe and supportive environment. These classes are designed for those with a fuller figure, overweight/obese and/or de-conditioned, and all are welcome including friends and supporters.  We'll do conditioning: aerobic, strength, balance and flexibility at a level you are comfortable with, using a variety of equipment and methods. (Free)

TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly)
Join our on-site chapter and get support for improving your lifestyle. The focus of TOPS is on changing habits, dealing with stresses, achieving better health, moving more and learning. It's not about dieting. The cost, including online tools, for the year is $49 or $59 depending upon which Wellness Package you choose. For subsequent years the cost is $32. You can join anytime.

We Are a “Work In Progress”
It's much easier to make healthy lifestyle changes when others are supporting you. Join this group for accountability as you create healthier habits. Small changes can positively impact your self-esteem, energy level and overall health.  Sharing your thoughts, challenges and successes are encouraged and not required. We meet in person twice monthly and engage weekly through Moodle.  You may also participate online if you can't make the meetings. (Free)

Yoga - Gentle Hatha for people of all ages, all body types, and all levels of experience
This class will help you become more flexible and relaxed, accept yourself and experience true happiness. Yoga removes the physical, mental, and emotional obstacles to being our authentic selves. It offers time to slow down between all the doings of everyday life. Yoga is very beneficial for physical and mental health.  ($65 plus the $10 per term tech/transportation fee)

SPECIAL EVENTS

Aging Parents Support Group, Wednesdays, Oct 5, Nov 2 and Dec 7, 1:15  – 2:00 p.m., Building 5, Room 126
Are your parents able to take care of themselves?  Are they experiencing memory loss?  Are they safe in their homes, still social and mobile?  Do you have these concerns and/or others?  If you could you use some support and resources to help assist you in caring for elders, these are the meetings for you. Contact Wendy Simmons or call her at ext. 5551 for more information.

"Go the Extra Mile for our Students" Walk/Run WeCare Events
Join us for one-mile walk/run events throughout the year. Benefit our students and your endurance! While the events are free, your donations will fund scholarships from a variety of departments throughout the year. There will be random prize drawings at each walk/run!

Location: Outdoors, North side of Building 5 on the Bark Trail. Indoor options available too.

Know Your Numbers Health Screening, 7:00 – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, Building 19, Room 105
Do you know your numbers? Health screenings cost just $15.00 and include blood pressure, resting pulse, waist circumference, BMI, body fat, and a finger stick test for total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and blood glucose. A 12-hour fast is required. Sign up for a 15 minute appointment by contacting Wendy Simmons or call ext. 5551.
