Emergency Medical Technicians

LCC's Public Safety Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) team includes patrol officers who have undergone Emergency Medical Technician training and have passed both Oregon and National accreditation as EMT (Basic). The training for this team was made possible by a 2013 Federal H.O.P.E. grant administered by the Lane Community College Health Care Professions Department.

All Public Safety Officers are trained in CPR and First Aid. The EMT's are a select group with additional training in Emergency Medical response that includes the authority to administer lifesaving Oxygen (O2), Epinephrine and some other drugs. They are also trained to identify life threatening conditions and respond appropriately. They are authorized to administer emergency airway management, spine injury protection, and patient stabilization.

Public Safety EMT responds to medical related calls in advance of and in support of local health care providers, responding fire and ambulance units, assessing and stabilizing as needed prior to their arrival. The Public Safety EMT team has EMT skill specific medical bags that are restricted to certified EMTs. These include O2, C-Collar, Splint, Blood Pressure Cuff and Stethoscope, aspirin and airway supplies.
