Meet the Coaches

Meet the Coaches

Welcome!
Student Success Coaches, Lane Oregon Promise

Jake Powers

Hello! My name is Jake Powers, and I am a new student success coach here at Lane Community College. As a first generation college student who has received lots of help in accessing and navigating education, I am so excited to support you as you begin your journey here. My own journey commenced in 2008 at Greenfield Community College in Western Massachusetts. My experience in community college was life changing. At GCC I met my first mentors, I developed passions and skills that have carried through my master’s degree, and I found true direction for my life. My hope is that your experience at Lane Community College will be just as formative. In my free time, I enjoy exploring Oregon’s beautiful rivers with my fly rod, hiking Oregon’s unbelievable landscapes, writing fiction, and drinking strong coffee with a good book in hand. I can’t wait to meet you all, and don’t hesitate to let me know how I can help you succeed!

Mira Mason-Reader

Hi there! My name is Mira Mason-Reader, and I am a Student Success Coach at Lane
Community College! I recently earned my MA in English, Creative Writing from University College Cork in Ireland, and I received my BA in English and Dance from Mills College. I’m from all over; I’ve lived in Arizona, Alaska, Oregon, California and Ireland, and I am excited to be back in the Willamette Valley. I love many things, but to name a few: writing, dancing, tea, musicals and making things (I love all things crafty!) are all pretty large aspects of my personality. I went to a community college before heading to my undergrad, so I know what it’s like to be a community college student and I know how quickly those terms fly by. I hope that you come and see me and the other Success Coaches before the terms fly by, and I look forward to working with all of you and helping you find your passions, interests and educational goals at Lane!

Amy Sanderson

Hi there, my name is Amy Sanderson.  As a new success coach, I am excited to join Lane Community College alongside the premiere of the first Oregon Promise students.  I truly hope you have an exciting, transformative and memorable experience here at Lane.  My time enrolled in a community college became one of my most positive and enjoyable life experiences I’ve ever had.  After majoring in music and theater at North Idaho Community College in Coeur d’Alene, my hometown, I transferred to the University of Idaho and completed a B.A. in Communications.  I went on to complete an MFA in Film Production at the University of New Orleans.  After graduation, I worked in the movie industry for over a decade and taught media arts at a charter high school in New Orleans.  Now a resident of Eugene, I can support my passion for filmmaking and mentoring with a love of the great outdoors.  It is my mission to help other students and individuals fulfill their unique academic, career and life journeys.
