Lane Oregon Promise

LCC Welcomes the First Cohort of Oregon Promise Recipients

Welcome to Lane photo with TyThe first term of the Lane 2016/2017 school year started like most other years, students armed with schedules and determination filtered through hallways and courtyards on the way to class.  This year 463 of those students have a lighter financial load thanks to the Oregon Promise Grant. The Oregon Promise is a state grant program created by the Oregon State Legislature in 2015 to cover some or all of the tuition at an Oregon community college for recent high school graduates and GED recipients.

Lane welcomed the first cohort of Oregon Promise students at the September Success Seminar, 394 full-time and 69 part-time students.  In three groups of 120-220 students, Lane counselors, advisors and four new part-time Success Coaches led students on a 1-day journey of career, financial and academic exploration.  The September Success Seminar also introduced students to the First-Year Experience.  The First-Year Experience utilizes Moodle/Lane Online, Lane’s course management system, where students receive salient student information tailored for each week of an academic calendar, and specialized information for the needs of their cohort.

Oregon Promise students complete a short, online activity each week. Activities are designed to contribute toward the goal of sound and efficient academic, financial and career goals. During winter and spring terms, students will articulate personal success plans and choose among various in-person and online activities to help them reach their goals. It is estimated the total student time investment for the First-Year Experience is 30 minutes per week.
