REMINDER: Colette's Tribe Columbia River Camp 49, Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp is hosting an event at Many Nations Longhouse, UofO

  • Date: Saturday, February 12
  • Time: 1pm ANB Camp 49 meeting

2pm Potluck Luncheon, visiting, drumming, singing, dancing

LANE PEACEKEEPERS SYMPOSIUM UPDATE - Daniel:
(see January 21 minutes for more details)

  • Grandma Agee and others will be speaking on the impact of bottled water
  • LCC Pow-Wow used 30 cases of bottled water
    • Would like to figure out how LCC can provide water without using bottled water
  • Will speak to Grande Ronde about their Pow-Wow as well
    • Coquille Chief coming to next Re-Entry Court - Daniel will connect about this issue
  • Matt an ASLCC Senator will bring possibility of LCC moratorium on bottle water
    • Peacekeepers advocate

T-SHIRTS Daniel: will get paperwork for more T-shirts to Donna ASAP, she can't get it to him till Monday

ASLCC SCHOOLWIDE CLUBS POTLUCK

  • Date: Friday February, 11
  • Time TBA but it will be before the NASA meeting
  • Moracca responsible for this event and clubs' user agreement
  • NASA will provide Indian tacos

LONGHOUSE USE

  • Good discussion about Longhouse use by outside groups and conduct issues
  • Wes: concern about clubs conduct in Longhouse and how to approach the issue. Possibly post code of conduct. Many in agreement
  • James Lane: post Code of Conduct on internet, Chuck: include in minutes
  • Use agreement is work in progress as Longhouse has only been open for four weeks. Will discuss posting at later date
  • James Florendo: Event organizers are responsible for signing use agreement & supervising proper use of Longhouse. Rules are common sense and courtesy. Give users benefit of doubt and approach any issues with courtesy and respect.
  • After discussion NASA member consensus on conduct: Treating all coming into Longhouse with respect & courtesy GENERATES respect and courtesy. Showing compassion and gentle reminders of conduct work toward communication and unity and build family rather than animosity. "Don't draw the line" by demanding conduct but respectfully remind where necessary.
  • EQUIPMENT USE
    • James Florendo: concern about use of equipment especially electronic by unskilled/untrained people
    • No one will be using electronics for this potluck Issue will be addressed as comes up
  • KITCHEN:
    • Stove: Katie would like training in using stove
    • NO ONE uses the stove in the kitchen until they have been shown how to use it by James Florendo. No blowing up the Longhouse!
    • Washing Machine - Colette: Donna requested laminated directions for using the washing machine be posted ASAP
    • Kitchen Signs - Nayma/Karen: Laminated signs for kitchen procedures should be posted too, ASAP would be good

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE UPDATE - Chuck:

  • Reminder: February 18-20, 2011 in Portland
  • Only Chuck, Nayma, & Colette turned in applications & so have the three guaranteed NASA spots
  • Wes: no new applications are being accepted if more applicants are chosen they will come from applications already turned in by Jan 28

NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

  • March 18-20, 2011 in Washington D.C. - fly out March 17th
  • Early Registration Feb 11, Late registration through Feb 23, 2011
  • All fees are covered if your application is accepted
  • Applications through ASLCC soon

Co-Chair Chuck D'Angelo PHOTO PROJECT

  • Giving back to the community through pictures
  • Would like to do photo documentation or NASA members for history & honoring
  • Several members agreed photo archiving good idea
  • Majority vote yes on this project

REMINDER: Longhouse Activities

  • Beading and crafts
    • Date & time: Tuesdays 7-9pm
    • Bring snacks

JEAN'S MOM THANK YOU CARD:

  • Will be in MCC next week for members to sign
  • Please take the time to sign the card and thank Jean's mom for her invaluable work and contribution to the Pow-Wow
  • If anyone can get a hold of Jean please do so & have her call Daniel

COUNCIL OF CLUB MEETINGS - Wes: encourages others to attend so that James Lane doesn't get burnt out on responsibility

  • James Lane: again would like at least one other person
  • Moracca, Christy, Carmella, Wes & Nayma have attended past meetings
  • Nayma will send out email reminders for CoC meetings

INDIAN TACO FUNDRAISER

  • Every Tuesday starting February 17
  • Current plan: Take orders from Faculty & Staff. Deliver Tacos on Tuesday
  • Nayma: Concern brought up about why deliver instead of serve in Longhouse
    • Reasons: People may not have time to come to Longhouse, no money exchanged in Longhouse, may be classes in Longhouse
    • Proposed: consider in future have a set time Tues afternoons for people to come in and eat in Longhouse.
      • Would open up to Students and more money.
      • Easier serving
      • Anyone wanting taco could purchase ticket in MCC all week long
    • Daniel getting supplies

NASA FUNDS:

  • Concerned raised about not using funds until NASA has chance to decide what would be best use of funds
  • Consensus: Don't want to 'nickle and dime' ourselves to death
  • Will discuss at future meetings

Sage for Longhouse taken care of

When do we get to use Salmon Pits??? - Carmella

  • James Florendo: couple of issues
    • Need wood
      • Pits must be tempered with 4-5 hour burn that has to be continually supervised
      • Talk to Scotty in MCC about wood, has wood needs harvesting
        • Would require truck, chainsaws, bodies
      • NASA needs schedule Pit burn, make a day of it
        • FLAME ON!
    • Pits must be lined with sand
      • Longhouse committee seems to be in debate about what kind of sand to line it with
      • May need to put a fire under them too

Public Service Announcements: Lenet

  • Sent PSA to KRVM about Colette's Tribe's event Feb 12
  • Any non-profit who would like PSA sent out Lenet will do it
  • Plan to have your PSA submitted ASAP before event, 6wks prior is good timeframe
