Listening and Testing Lab

The Listening Lab was developed in 1979 to support Lane Community College's unique Listening program. Today, the lab serves several programs: Listening and Critical Thinking, Speech and Communication classes, and Language classes.

Services

For Listening and Critical Thinking students (Sp 105)

  • Check-ins: Students earn five points per week during weeks three through eight by checking in to the lab with their Learning to Listen workbooks.
  • CDs/Tapes: Workbook recordings are available for use in the lab. CDs and tapes may be checked out from the LCC Library reserve section.
  • Make-up work and tests: With the instructor's permission, students may take make-up tests or complete missed in-class material, such as the Effective Listening workbook, in the lab.
  • Sample essays: Students may request to review sample essays; please be sure you have the course title and instructor's name to facilitate this service. Samples may not be removed or copied from the lab.

For Speech and Communication Studies students

  • Make-up tests: With the instructor's permission, students may take make-up tests in the lab. Students should arrive at the lab early enough before closing hours to complete the test; the lab will not remain open to administer tests near closing time.
  • Video-viewing: Students who do not have access to their own video playing equipment may view videotaped speeches in the lab.
  • Sample essays: Students may request to review sample essays; please be sure you have the course title and instructor's name to facilitate this service. Samples may not be removed or copied from the lab.

For Spanish students

  • Exams: Most Spanish exams are given in the lab.
  • Tapes: Students may listen to assigned tapes and purchase replacement copies of audiotaped course material.

For French students

  • Exams: All French exams are given in the lab.
  • Tapes: Students may listen to assigned tapes and purchase copies of audiotaped course material.
  • Check-out: Students may sign out video and audio class supplements.
