Welcome to Assessment
NEW: If you attended the A-Team Fall In-Service Break-Out Session, please fill out an evaluation survey here.
Lane's assessment site is a vibrant, dynamic space for the college's ongoing conversation about assessment. Just as assessment requires us to continually rethink which practices are most effective, so too will this page reflect Lane's continual rethinking of assessment. Assessment is most effective when it is approached as a dialogue. In order to support this dialogue at Lane, we invite you to share your own ideas, perspectives, and resources for assessment by submitting materials you would like to share. We also encourage you to consistently participate in this conversation by revisiting this page on a regular basis.
What is assessment?
Lane's Strategic Directions proclaim that Lane transforms students' lives through learning, but how do we know this is so? To know, we must assess.
As our college research office explains, "Systematic assessment provides ongoing opportunities for thorough, thoughtful, critical analysis of evidence, and reflection about what students learn, with the goal to improve learning."
Assessment focuses on the institutional view of overall college effectiveness, but it zeroes in as well on specific programs and disciplines, on courses, and on student support services. By creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of assessment, Lane commits to continuous intentional improvement to advance student success.
