Online Courses

Lane Online power button Online Courses

Online courses are offered via the web so that students may participate anytime, anyplace they have Internet access. Online courses require little or no on-campus attendance, but may have on-campus labs or exams.  A few may have orientation sessions. Interaction with the instructor and other students is provided through discussion forums and email. Students don't have to be online at a certain time every day, but will be expected to log on and participate in the course regularly.  Students are responsible for maintaining their own computers and software required for each class. • You'll need access to a computer with reliable internet (high-speed internet access is recommended), to be comfortable using email, have a current email address on file in myLane, and be able to operate a browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer.  Software specific to your course or program may also be required.
  • In addition to computer skills, you need to have good time management and written communication skills. You also need to be organized, self-motivated, and an independent learner.
  • Log in to online courses through Moodle, Lane's learning management system. To learn more about Moodle, explore Moodle Help for Students. Log in as a guest if you're not already enrolled in a Moodle course.
  • If your course has on-campus exams and you live outside of the local area, you'll need to find a proctor.
