Are Online Courses For Me Questionnaire

Are Online Courses For Me? Questionnaire

Online learning is great for many students, but may not be for everyone.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if you and online learning are a good match. Your answers will not be "graded" or scored, so answer the questions as accurately as possible, so that you will have an idea of what you will be facing in an online course. Select the answer that best applies to you by clicking on "Yes" or "No".

You answered yes. Good! Generally speaking, the more you know about computers and how to use them, and the more comfortable you are with them, the better your online learning experience will be.

You answered no. Taking an online class involves using a computer to connect to your classroom area, communicate with your instructor and classmates, turn in assignments, etc. This does not mean that you need to be a computer expert, but keep in mind that you do need to know some of the basics in order to take an online class.

You answered yes. Having your own computer is a big plus...this will enable you to access your course materials whenever you like.

You answered no. Having your own computer is not necessary, but it is a big plus, especially if you want to work on assignments late at night, early in the morning, etc.

You answered yes. Being able to access the Internet from your computer is great, and having a fast connection such as cable or DSL will make your learning experience that much more enjoyable.

You answered no. Having access to the Internet is a must, whether it is from your home, work, school, etc., since it will be how you access your online materials, communicate, and turn in assignments.

You answered yes. That is good since most of the coursework online is in written form.

You answered no. Since the majority of coursework is presented in written form, it really helps to have strong reading skills.

You answered yes. This is a big benefit for you, since you will be doing a lot of writing in your online classes.

You answered no. Online courses require a great deal of written communication, so it really helps if you are able to express your ideas well in a written format.

You answered yes. Having good keyboarding skills will make it that much easier for you in your online classes.

You answered no. While perfect keyboarding skills are not required to take an online course, there are a lot of activities that involve keyboarding. Keep in mind, the more you keyboard, the better your skills will become.

You answered yes. This is a big plus for you since online courses usually require you to spend more time on your coursework than face-to-face classes do since lecture material is online.

You answered no. In a face-to-face class you would be expected to spend X hours of work per week for every credit you are taking. Keep in mind that in an online class you will probably need to spend more time than that.

You answered yes. Generally speaking, the more you know about computers and how to operate them, the easier your online tasks will be.

You answered no. Online courses sometimes require downloading and installing software, so it is important to be comfortable with this process or be able to count on getting help from someone who is. In the event that you do need help, you can contact Student Help Desk at (541) 463-3333.

You answered yes. Excellent! Being self-motivated and having the ability to work independently should help when it comes to taking classes online.

You answered no. Even though you are taking an online class you will still have due dates on assignments, quizzes, etc.. So if you are not self-motivated or you do not have the ability to work independently then you might have problems in your online class.

You answered yes. Being a procrastinator will not help you when it comes to taking classes online. Your instructor will have due dates on assignments, quizzes, projects, etc., and turning any of these things in late could really hurt your grade.

You answered no. This is a good thing, since online classes still follow timelines and due dates in the same way that face-to-face classes do. Good time management skills are a benefit in the online classroom.

You answered yes. Good, since you will be spending a lot of time there while working on assignments and communicating with your instructor and classmates.

You answered no. Online learning requires long stretches of time at the computer, so it is important that you become comfortable with spending several hours at a time on the computer.

You answered yes. Excellent! Using e-mail and a Web browser are an integral part of online learning.

You answered no. Using E-mail and a Web browser are everyday tasks in online learning, so the sooner you learn how to use these the better your online experience will be.

You answered yes. Good, since there is a strong chance that you never will meet your instructor or classmates in person.
