Heath Insurance Requirements

Heath Insurance Information

All International students attending Lane Community College must have health insurance. Health insurance is a very important part of your educational expenses because of the high costs of medical care in the U.S.

The school has a policy which currently costs approximately $380 per term or $1,520 for the full year. For fall and winter terms you will be billed and enrolled only for that current term (one term's charges only). For spring term you will be billed and enrolled for both spring and summer terms (charged for two terms) with spring term tuition and fees.

You will be required to purchase the college policy unless you provide a Certificate of Insurance or Sponsor letter from your government agency which shows you have the same or better (comparable) coverage through another company. The proof must be provided by the end of the first week of classes. Private policies that do not show comparable coverage will not be accepted and you will be automatically enrolled in and responsible for payment of the school policy.

Our experience is that many policies students have through insurance companies in their home country do not have comparable coverage. The current college policy provides:

Coverage Type Minimum Requirement Maximum available with Lane's policy
Accident Medical Expense $75,000 No Maximum Caps or Limits
Illness Medical Expense $75,000 No Maximum Caps or Limits
Medical Evacuation $10,000 Unlimited if arranged through Firebird
Repatriation $7,500 Unlimited if arranged through Firebird

** Maternity coverage must be included (per State of Oregon law).

NO LESS COVERAGE WILL BE ACCEPTED. If you wish to have us review a policy you currently have, please send a Certificate of Insurance which should include your name, dates of enrollment, and amount of coverage. Your personal document must be in English and an original document. I.D. cards without policy information are not accepted

Unlimited Medivac and Repatriation coverage provides worldwide emergency medical assistance services plus unlimited medical evacuation and repatriation benefits and, is not often automatically included in private insurance. However, it is required and private policies will not be accepted without this coverage.

You will be given information at orientation about insurance including policy information, identification cards and insurance website information.  For specific Firebird International Group policy information: http://www.lanecc.edu/international/insurance-information

Also, Lane Community College students are allowed to take advantage of our no or low cost health care in the Student Health Clinic to reduce health care costs. This should be the first place you go if you have medical problems.

We want your stay here to be as pleasant, healthy and successful as possible. Your health is an important part of this.
