Honors Course Proposal Application

Because the divisions at Lane are developing their own criteria for honors proposals, it is important for instructors proposing honors options or sections to be aware of and conform to the various departmental requirements. You will need to obtain approval from your discipline and dean before submitting your proposals.

Faculty Information

Department or Division Support

Proposals must have support from both the division dean and the contracted faculty in the discipline or division.

Course Information

Indicate all terms you plan to offer the class, for example Fall 2014, Spring 2015
Attach a syllabus of the current course in .pdf, .rtf, .doc, or .docx format
Files must be less than 5 MB.
Allowed file types: rtf pdf doc docx.
Attach the approved course outline on file electronically with your division (.pdf, .rtf, .doc, or .docx format)
Files must be less than 5 MB.

Attach an annotated syllabus that reflects proposed changes or enhancements (.pdf, .rtf, .doc, or .docx format)
Files must be less than 5 MB.
Allowed file types: rtf pdf doc docx.

Please address each of the following questions in the space provided. We recommend that you type your responses into a Word document and then copy and paste them into the spaces below.

Question 1
Provide a short narrative that explains how your honors class will distinguish itself from your traditional offering. How will you address the existing course outcomes in new ways and/or address any new outcomes you are proposing for the class? Refer to Lane's Recommended Honors Attributes for more information.

Question 2
Indicate your methods of assessment and which of Lane's Core Learning Outcomes you will be assessing. How will your assessments allow students to demonstrate mastery of deeper and more rigorous knowledge and skills? Include a general example of assisgnments or activities you plan to use to meet these outcomes.

Question 3
Briefly describe the ways in which you have maintained currency in your field of study and how you will incorporate this into your honors class.

Is there anything else you would like to add, such as why you are interested in teaching an honors class or to clarify information?
