What is a Nurse Practitioner?

  • Nurse Practitioners provide a broad range of health care services, which includes
  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases
  • Writing prescriptions and coordinating referrals
  • Ordering diagnostic testing including radiology, laboratory tests, and procedures
  • Patient Education

Nurse practitioners work in a variety of settings, including: Primary Care, Family Practice, Family Medicine, Emergency/Urgent Care, Women's Health, School Health, and other specialty care. Nurse Practitioners in the State of Oregon work independently, without doctor supervision but rather, collaborate with Physicians as a joint health team or through resource and referral.
