EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College is proud to announce that it has been selected to work with the U.S. Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) on the implementation of new solar electric projects on campus.
The college is currently in the process of updating its Solar Master Plan that’s used to implement projects on a regular basis. This update aims to move Lane toward achieving its goal of generating 6,000,000 kwh/year of renewable energy by 2050.
Lane staff will work with NREL technical staff to determine the feasibility and site location(s) for future installations and collect solar insulation information. NREL staff will also propose and develop a project ranking tool. This tool would help the college determine which existing tools would be best for the continued assessment and prioritization of solar electric projects after NREL finishes its work with Lane.
“Lane’s Institute for Sustainable Practices thanks the community for their strong support of our work to educate our students, staff and the public about sustainability,” said Anna Scott, Energy and Indoor Environmental Quality Analyst at Lane. “Our recent kick-off meeting with NREL went well, and we look forward to working together to help Lane develop more solar projects.”
NREL’s technical analysis on the feasibility of solar electric installations is vital to securing the financial support Lane requires to build solar electric projects. The college plans to install a new solar installation within three years of the completion of NREL’s technical assistance.
