EUGENE, Ore. - Lane Community College has educated and trained Olympic champions, multi-million dollar business owners, broadcasters, physicists, civil rights leaders—you name it. The question is, can they continue a comprehensive mission in an era of challenge? The answer is yes, as detailed in a new five-year strategic plan adopted by 7-0 vote at the July 13 Lane Board of Education meeting.
The 2016-2021 Strategic Plan is the culmination of an 18-month planning process that gathered input from across the college and the communities it serves, including community meetings held by the board and hundreds of hours of work by employees and students.
The plan presents a framework for achieving objectives that support the core themes of responsive community engagement, accessible and equitable learning opportunities, quality educational environment, and individual student achievement. It calls for building upon existing efforts to increase student success and institutional effectiveness.
The plan recognizes the challenges of state disinvestment, enrollment decline and resource constraints, but input clearly revealed that the community still depends on Lane for a comprehensive training and educational program.
Five strategic directions are defined in the plan:
- commitment to student learning and success
- a culture of teaching, learning and innovation
- access, equity and inclusion through social justice
- strengthened community
- financial and environmental stewardship
Work now shifts to implementation planning. The plan is available online at https://www.lanecc.edu/research/planning/strategic-plan
