EUGENE, Ore.— Students and career-seekers can tour the Lane Community College Diesel Technology program and experience the power of highway trucks and heavy equipment at Diesel Days on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14 at LCC main campus in Eugene. Activities will be held in the Diesel Tech Lab (Building 9, Room 101) and Parking Lot 4. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lane’s Diesel Technology program is partnering with local employers to bring heavy equipment to campus to give attendees a chance to handle diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, powertrains and air conditioning systems. Equipment will include big trucks and tractors, bulldozers and backhoes, high-lifts and buses, and more.
Participating employers to date include John Wolf of Cummins Northwest, Brian Evans and Bob Cusic of Peterson Caterpillar, Arlen Rexius of Rexius Forest Products, Steve Hidy of Pacific Truck Center/Freightliner, Gary Lentsch of EWEB, Steve Spriggs of Leavitts Freight Service, Dave Svendsen of LTD, Jacob Harwood of Tec Equipment/Volvo, Brendan Boyce of Brattain International, Aaron Vanordstrand of Pape Kenworth, Aaron Goettsch of DSU Peterbilt, Korby Keinle of Pape Material Handling Bobcat West, and Steve Thorpe of Equipment Mobile Service.
Information on career opportunities as a diesel technician and how to apply to the LCC Diesel Technology program will be provided.
Lane’s program is certified by the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) international trade association and offers students a state-of-the-art laboratory. Graduates are qualified to work as diesel technicians on highway trucks, construction equipment, forklifts, boats, recreation vehicles, trains and agriculture equipment.
Potential employers include heavy equipment dealers and fleets, on and off highway truck dealers and fleets, independent repair shops, public transportation, school districts and government agencies.
