LCC selected for $100,000 Goldman Sachs Gives matching funds grant

President Mary Spilde announces Goldman Sachs Gives $100,000 grantEUGENE, Ore.—Lane Community College is one of nine colleges nationwide, and the only college in Oregon, selected to receive a scholarship matching funds grant from the Goldman Sachs Gives Community College Fund. Lane will receive $100,000 to match funds pledged by college donors.

“The grant was given as a match to the generous scholarship support of several of our major donors, and we thank them for their help in securing this gift,” President Mary Spilde announced at a donor’s reception on April 28. “This will increase the scholarship funds that we have available for students, and it will help ensure the quality of education that our students deserve.”

Goldman Sachs established the grant program to strengthen community college endowments that support need-based financial aid. The $1 million donation from Goldman Sachs Gives, a donor-advised fund, will be distributed to community colleges throughout the country and is being matched 1:1 by donors in the colleges’ respective communities. The donation adds to Goldman Sachs’ reputation as one of the largest private backers of community colleges in the country. Goldman Sachs Gives has catalyzed $4 million overall for this effort, including $1 million in matching funds and $3 million raised from the firm’s management committee of senior-most executives.

Goldman Sachs Gives Community College Fund recipients include:
•    Borough of Manhattan Community College (New York, NY)
•    Community College of Baltimore County (Baltimore, MD)
•    Community College of Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA)
•    Gateway Technical College (Kenosha, WI)
•    Lane Community College (Eugene, OR)
•    Metropolitan Community College (Omaha, NE)
•    Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (Perkinston, MS)
•    Odessa College (Odessa, TX)
•    St. Louis Community College (St. Louis, MO)

The awards were made after a competitive application process demonstrating each college’s ability to raise matching funds, build successful partnerships, provide exemplary leadership, and demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that students from all backgrounds and socioeconomic levels have access to educational opportunities through a robust financial aid program.
