EUGENE, Ore. - Education administrators, students, faculty and staff from around Oregon and Washington are joining sustainability experts at Lane Community College this week to share and learn about the latest in education, facilities management and social issues around sustainability, as part of the 2016 Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference.
Organizers say the conference is an opportunity to show how many little decisions can ultimately have a big impact on the environment and costs not just for organizations, but for communities. “We look forward to hosting this event and learning from the many different perspectives and experts who will be on our campus, ” said Lane Community College Mary Spilde.
Keynote speakers for the conference include renowned writer Kathleen Dean Moore, LCC President Mary Spilde, LCC Vice President for College Services Brian Kelly. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear from more than 100 speakers on panels discussing a range of topics including the design of campus buildings, rethinking gender spaces on campus, STEM education with a focus on climate change and sustainability efforts in different cultural communities.
This is the second in what is expected to be a biannual conference hosted at schools throughout Oregon. This year, the conference received support from Lane Community College, Portland Community College, Portland State University, the National College of Natural Medicine, Oregon State University, Southern Oregon University, and the University of Oregon as well as local governments, private industry, nonprofits, and utilities.
The conference will take place in Lane’s Center for Meeting and Learning. Additional information is available at http://ohesc.org/
