Eugene, Ore. – The Oregon Jazz Festival returns to Lane Community College January 22 and 23, 2016. A continuing collaboration between the LCC and University of Oregon Jazz studies programs, the festival is in its 12th year. High school and middle school jazz bands and combos from all over Oregon and southern Washington come together to study and play jazz with our festival clinicians and guest artists.
Featured guest artist this year is jazz guitar great Julian Lange. A child prodigy, Lage was the subject of the 1997 documentary Jules at Eight.[2] At age 13 Lage performed at the 2000 Grammy Awards. He has been a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop at Stanford University[3] since age 15. Classically trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Lage has studied at Sonoma State University, Ali Akbar College of Music, and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2008.
On March 24, 2009 Lage released his debut album Sounding Point on EmArcy Records, to favorable reviews. It was nominated for the 2010 Grammy Award Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
2016 festival clinicians include:
- Dan Cavanagh, University of Texas-Arlington
- James Miley, Willamette University
- Jason Palmer, Portland Community College
- Rob Tapper, University of Montana
