EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College will hold How to Pay For College…In One Day, a free financial aid and scholarship workshop on Saturday, January 16, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.
For the 17th year, students and parents can, in one day and in one location, complete the federal financial aid application process and access college scholarship resources.
Participants will learn how to find and compete for scholarships and how to write effective applications. Financial aid professionals will help participants complete the online FAFSA application, so participants should bring their 2015 tax and financial records.
Specific information about the Office of Student Access & Completion (OSAC) and Lane Community College scholarships will be provided. OSAC will also present information about the new Oregon Promise program which will provide up to $1,000 to students receiving an Oregon high school diploma or GED in spring/summer 2016.
A college funding workshop will also be held in Spanish.
Schedule:
• 8:30-9:00 - Registration - Welcome, event overview
• 9:00-2:30 - College Goal Oregon - Meet with financial aid professionals who will help you complete the online FAFSA. Bring your 2015 tax records and your 2015 financial records.
• 9:00-11:15 - ”Be a Competitive Applicant!” - Learn resources and strategies for finding and applying for college scholarships.
• 11:45-1:15 - ”Finding Funds for Oregon Students” - Learn how to apply for the Office of Student Access & Completion (OSAC) Scholarships
• 11:45-1:15 - ”Sesión Informativa Acerca de Becas y Ayuda Financiera”
• 1:30-2:30 - “Is the Oregon Promise For You?” - A new State grant helps cover some cost of community college for 2016 high school graduates and qualified GED recipients. Led by OSAC.
Participants may register at http://lanecc.augusoft.net by typing "How to Pay" in the search box, then following the prompts. This event is free, no fees will be charged.
For the third year the title sponsor is Northwest Community Credit Union.
Coffee and tea will be available. A limited number of lunch items will be available for sale. Brown bags are welcome.
