EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of John Galas as the head coach of the new Men’s Soccer team. Coach Galas brings a wealth of experience from coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels.
Coach Galas is currently the Head Coach of Lane United FC of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League here in Eugene and adding the coaching duties it Lane “is a natural step” according to Galas.
Coach Galas’ prior professional coaching experience includes helping guide the Portland Thorns to a national Championship, goalkeeping coach with the Portland Timbers, and working with the Real Salt Lake Academy.
At the collegiate level, Coach Galas has worked with Florida State University, the University of Oregon and the University of Arizona, resulting in multiple appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
“We have hired an excellent coach who brings a wealth of experience at both the intercollegiate and professional levels,” said LCC Director of Athletics Greg Sheley. “Coach Galas will be able to step right in and help our student athletes academically and athletically, putting Lane CC Men’s Soccer in a great position to be successful.”
In addition to his breadth of coaching experience, Coach Galas also carries some impressive credentials that include a United States Soccer Federation “A” License and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America “Premier” Diploma. He received his MBA from the University of Liverpool, specializing in football (soccer) industries and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon.
Coach Galas will get right into the recruiting process as there have been dozens of potential student athletes who have registered their interest in playing for Lane CC through the Lane Titans website and by reaching out directly to Lane CC athletics staff.

Lane Men’s Soccer has the maximum number of Grant-In-Aid financial aid awards that are allowable under NWAC rules. This puts Lane in a strong place to compete for the best student athletes and offer them an opportunity to continue their education and their love of volleyball at a reduced tuition cost, said Sheley.
