EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College President Mary Spilde is participating in the Nov. 19 White House American Campuses Act on Climate roundtable in Washington D.C.
Participants include higher education leaders, students, and NGOs.
Last week, Spilde signed the American Campuses Act on Climate Pledge to demonstrate support for strong climate action by world leaders in Paris next month (see

Lane pledged to:
• Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and create thresholds for increasing climate resilience
• Make carbon neutrality and climate resilience a part of the curriculum and other educational experiences for all students
• Train Energy Management Technicians, Renewable Energy Technicians, Water Conservation Technicians, and Watershed Science Technicians
• Encourage and support students and faculty in all disciplines to use Lane's campus as a living laboratory so that they can simultaneously improve the sustainability of our campus while practicing change agent skills
• Foster conversations within our community and among higher education institutions by hosting conferences, forums, and activities that build the movement toward climate stabilization and resilience.
Lane was one of the original 12 presidents who initiated the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment in 2006. ACUPCC now includes more than 600 college and university presidents and chancellors. Spilde serves on the American Association of Community Colleges Sustainability Task Force and has been recognized for her leadership many times, including the U.S. Green Building Council's Center for Green Schools President's Award for a two-year institution in 2013.
