EUGENE, OR – The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present The Rising Tide, an exhibition featuring the works of Portland artist Amy Mintonye. "The Rising Tide" is a collection collages about a world on the brink of change. Mintonye's dream-like poems in paper and paint illustrate the effect of contemporary issues ranging from income inequality to environmental disasters on archetypal yet relatable characters."
Artist Statement:
Amy Mintonye is a mixed media artist who combines found imagery with painterly illustration. She composes her realistic yet surreal narratives from collage clippings, found objects and marks from her own hand. Simultaneously cheeky and sincere, Amy's work seeks to provoke a better understanding of human condition in the audience. Amy plays with scale, balance, irony and juxtaposition to investigate age-old power dynamics between victim and aggressor, man and nature, rich and poor, and men and women. Her found imagery is harvested from her vast collection of vintage print matter, helping her images and themes feel timeless and archetypal.
The show runs from November 16 to December 9. There will be a lecture on Wednesday, November 18th 2:00 pm with a reception immediately following.
The galleries are located in building 11 on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.
