EUGENE, Ore. - As drought changes the landscapes and future of Oregon and the nation, the Watershed Science Technician program at Lane Community College is hosting a presentation by the Delaware Riverkeeper Network of Pennsylvania on "Pure Water, Clean Air, and a Healthy Environment." The presentation will be Monday, November 9, at 7 p.m. in the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane's Downtown Campus, 101 W. 10th Avenue, Eugene.
Speaker Maya van Rossum will talk about the Delaware Riverkeeper Network project in Pennsylvania and how it could potentially become part of a national movement. In particular, Oregon is one of many states in which their network is reaching out to provide more public information and answer questions.
In Pennsylvania, Peoples' rights to pure water, clean air and a healthy environment have been recognized by the Commonwealth's highest court as inherent and indefeasible rights to be protected by all levels of government for both present and future generations, according to the Network. "Environment rights should be recognized and protected by every state in the nation with as much conviction as our rights to free speech and the other political rights we hold dear. Oregon has no environmental rights provision in its constitution," says van Rossum.
The event is free and the public is invited. See the poster.pdf or brochure.pdf.
