Lyndsay Rice exhibit “Chromatic Embellishment” opens Oct. 26

Photo-collective works, by Lyndsay RiceEUGENE, OR – The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present

Chromatic Embellishment, an exhibition featuring works from 3-D artist Lyndsay Rice. Lyndsay is a recent graduate of the jewelry and metalsmithing MFA program at the University of Oregon and is currently teaching at Earlham College, Indiana.

Artist Statement:

I am interested in natural patterning and its relationship to communication in the natural world such as warning or attractant... I am curious about the translation of this natural imagery and its application in the human world. What is lost in translation? What is gained? Ornament is a visual embellishment attached to structure, whether that structure is the architectural facade of a building, or jewelry on the human form. Ornamentation is a representation of natural forms, such as plants or animal skins. In this installation, I intend to explore these aspects of ornamentation, where the work is derived of natural imagery, wearable, and offers optical engagement.

The show runs from October 26 to November 12. There will be a lecture on Wednesday, October 28 at 2:00 pm with a reception immediately following.

The galleries are located in building 11 on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.
