EUGENE, Ore. - The Walmart State Giving Program made a grant of $182,000 to Lane Community College to support the Ready to Work project. Within one year, Ready to Work will help 100 area residents with barriers to employment build work readiness skills and participate in effective job search activities.
Ready to Work will offer classes and workshops in basic computer skills, customer service and effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. It will include preparation for the National Career Readiness Certificate, and will provide individualized career planning with a Career & Employment Advisor.
Additionally, Ready to Work will provide job search instruction and support, which will include creating a resume, practicing interviews, learning to network and use social media effectively, and participating in a job club. The Career & Employment Advisor will help participants tailor their job search efforts to their specific needs and goals.
Lane Community College is recruiting veterans; people 50 years and older; dislocated workers; ex-offenders and other individuals with barriers to employment to participate in the Ready to Work project. The program is open to the general public. Participants are not required to be LCC students.
