Lane's first graduation, 1966EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College will hold its 50th Anniversary Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 13 at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene. The processional begins at 3 p.m.

Dr. Mary Spilde, president of Lane Community College, will present the welcoming statement, followed by messages from Board of Education Chair Pat Albright, student body president Malisa Ratthasing, and faculty member Margaret Robertson.

President Spilde will deliver the keynote address. She is Lane's sixth president, a post she has held since 2001. She has 35 years of community college leadership and is a nationally respected authority on community college education, workforce development and sustainability. Her remarks will be followed by those of student keynote speaker Amanda Desjado. Desjado is a Eugene native and a graduate of North Eugene High. She is an active volunteer with Sacred Heart Hospital, the American Red Cross and the Boys & Girls Club of Eugene. She plans to go on to earn a master's degree in business.

"Commencement is a fantastic party and celebration," says Helen Garrett, Dean of Enrollment Management Systems at Lane. About 400 students typically "walk" in the ceremony. This year Lane expects to graduate 1,328 students.
