Eugene, Ore. – On Monday, June 1st, the Lane Chamber Choir from Lane Community College will perform Requiem by the French master Gabriel Fauré, at Central Presbyterian Church, located at 555 E. 15th Ave. in Eugene. This choral work of exquisite beauty features soprano and baritone soloists, SATB chorus, organ, and violin under the direction of Matt Svoboda, Director of Choral Activities at LCC.
Fauré's Requiem is an intimate setting of the Requiem Mass, one that emphasizes light and eternal rest through subtle shifts in dynamics and harmony. Fauré himself saw death "as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards the happiness of the hereafter, rather than as a painful passing away," and his music expressively captures this vision of peaceful deliverance.
The Lane Chamber Choir is comprised of 30 singers from Lane Community College. The select choir works with special guest artists, tours throughout the state of Oregon, and frequently performs chamber music from the Medieval era to the present.
This concert is free to the public, though donations to support the Lane Chamber Choir program are appreciated.
