Media Invitation to Life Flight Training Exercise April 30 at Lane Community College

WHO – Lane County Sheriff's Office Regional Reserve Academy, Search and Rescue, and Police Agency Reserves; and Lane Community College EMT/Paramedic Program, Public Safety, and C-CERT (Campus Community Emergency Response Team)

WHAT – Life Flight air ambulance live training exercise

WHEN – Thursday, April 30, 2015, 6-8 p.m.

WHERE – LCC Main Campus Parking Lot N (motorcycle training area), 4000 E 30th Ave., Eugene

WHY – Live scenario training with Life Flight air ambulance will provide hands-on training experience for local emergency response professionals, students and volunteers.

DESCRIPTION –The training scenario involves a mock vehicle crash scene with one patient needing to be transported by Life Flight. The helicopter will fly in, land in the landing zone and will load the patient. The helicopter will circle the campus, return, land to offload the patient as if at a hospital; and shut down for a debrief with the participants. Reserves personnel will act as accident responders; Search and Rescue participants will assist with setting up the landing zone and guiding the helicopter; EMT/Paramedic students will help the flight crew load and offload the patient.

During active flight operations, Lane Public Safety will stop traffic in Parking Lot N and on Eldon Schafer Drive. The road closures will be short in duration and occur only when the helicopter is actively in service.

MEDIA STAGING – We appreciate everyone's understanding and patience during flight operations to ensure the safety of all involved and those around the scenario zone. Media access will be provided near Gate 4 which provides a good view of the training area.
