Kushner's play is set during the Reagan-era onset of the AIDS crisis in New York City. It tells the story of two couples in conflict, and deals with issues including: politics, religion, abandonment, and fabulousness. Kushner's "Gay Fantasia on National Themes" is one of the most successful and important plays of the last century. Millennium Approaches is directed by Brian Haimbach, Lane's Theatre Faculty Lead, and will emphasize Kushner's "Theatre of the Fabulous" aesthetic and employ production elements afforded by the Ragozzino's impressive stage. The enhanced reading of Perestroika is directed by Anna Parks and will feature the same production elements found in Millennium Approaches.
The cast includes current Lane theatre students David Arnold, Jon Sims, Nick Cervantes, Aaron Smart, Felix Monet, Lydia Reynolds, Marly Gross and Reese Madden. Community actors Jenni Kiffmeyer and David Helvey complete the cast. Designers include James McConkey, Mari DeWitt, Taylor Freeman, and Rhodec Erickson. SPA is proud to co-sponsor this production with the Gender and Sexuality Alliance of Lane Community College. The HIV Alliance of Eugene will be in attendance providing information about HIV testing and support.
