Medical journalist Katie Singer to speak at LCC on April 9 on the health and environmental effects of electromagnetic radiation

EUGENE, Ore. – Lane Peace Center and Beyond Toxics are co-sponsoring an "Electronic Silent Spring" teach-in focused on the health, environmental, and political impacts of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from cell phones, cell towers, Wi-Fi, and smart meters. The teach-in is on Thursday, April 9 from 10-11:30 a.m. in building 31, the Longhouse, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene. This event is part two of an ongoing series of teach-ins on the impacts of electromagnetic radiation on people and the environment.

The event will feature a talk by medical journalist and author Katie Singer titled, "20 Years of Telecom News Rarely Covered by the Media: A Press Release." Singer raises public awareness of the Telecommunications Act passed by Congress in 1996, of which Section 704 states that neither health nor environmental concerns may interfere with cell tower installations. She reviews the scientific studies investigating the health and environmental effects of exposure to radiation emitted by wireless technologies over the 20 years we have lived with this law, and reports on the findings. A Q&A will follow.

Lane offers teach-ins as part of its commitment to providing the community with accessible, quality, learning-centered opportunities

The event is free and open to the public. For further information go to: http://www.lanecc.edu/peacecenter
