EUGENE, Ore. — The Winter Term Concert Series at Lane Community College begins on Thursday, March 5 with the Lane Choirs Concert at 7:30 in the Ragozzino Performance Hall on the main campus. Performing will be the Concert Choir and the Chamber Choir, under the direction of Matthew Svoboda, and the Gospel Choir, under the direction of Vicki Brabham.
The Lane Concert Choir will be performing an eclectic set of spiritual pieces from various traditions as well as a Beatle's favorite, Here Comes the Sun. The Lane Chamber Choir will likewise have its own eclectic set by performing music sung in Swahili and French as well as a jazz ballad, and another Beatles' favorite, Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da. The Gospel Choir will have its usual hand-clapping, foot-stomping repertore.
On Tuesday, March 10, the Lane Jazz Studies program presents the Jazz Combos concert at 7:30 in the intimate atmosphere of the Blue Door Theater. Seven combos will each perform a 15-minute set of jazz standards and lesser-known tunes from significant jazz albums.
Thursday, March 12, the Lane Symphonic Band, directed by Paul Krueger, will perform a variety of works including a classical trumpet concerto, and music by Frank Erickson, Richard Saucedo, Robert Sheldon, and a fun arrangement of Hans Zimmer's score from "The Dark Knight Rises." The show starts at 7:30 in the Ragozzino Performance Hall.
The series concludes on Friday, March 13, with the Lane Jazz Ensemble performing
a mixture of old and new works by composers such as Benny Carter, Dan Gailey, John Clayton, Dave Glenn, Vince Norman and arrangements by George Stone and Tom Kubis.
