LCC Music Faculty and guests present “Sondheim and Me” March 24

Siri VikEugene, Ore. – The Lane Community College Music Faculty, the Eugene Opera and The Jazz Station present "Sondheim and Me", a cabaret showcase of songs by Stephen Sondheim on March 24, at 6:00pm, in the Blue Door Theater on the LCC main campus. The concert is one of the events around Eugene celebrating Sondheim's career, leading up to the production of Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" by the Eugene Opera in March.

Performers for "Sondheim and Me" feature Siri Vik, Gene Chin and Barbara Myrick with guests Brian Haimbach (LCC Theatre Director), Shirley Andress, William Hulings and pianist Jim Greenwood. The program includes songs from "A Little Night Music", "Westside Story", "Company", "Sweeney Todd", "Into the Woods" and other Sondheim musicals.

Stephen Joshua Sondheim (born March 22, 1930) is known for his immense contributions to musical theatre during the past 50 years. He is the winner of an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, eight Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award. Described by Frank Rich of The New York Times as "now the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theater." In celebration of his 80th birthday, the former Henry Miller's Theatre was renamed the Stephen Sondheim Theater on September 15, 2010, and the BBC Proms staged a concert in his honor. The famous British producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh has described Sondheim as "possibly the greatest lyricist ever."

Tickets for "Sondheim and Me" are $10 general admission, and $8 for students, staff and seniors 55+. Only 85 tickets are available for this show. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.lanecc.edu/tickets. Tickets will also be available the night of the show, starting at 5:15 in the Blue Door Theater lobby.
