Collaborations Dance 2015 at LCC February 26-28

Shannon Knight's "Figurine"Eugene, Ore. – The Dance Program of Lane Community College will present Collaborations Dance 2015, February 26-28, in the Ragozzino Performance Hall on the LCC main campus. Performances start at 7:30 each evening.

This year, the program features work by Lane Dance Alumni Shannon Knight, Dorene Carroll, Eileen King of Kings Krew and Lisa Bradley, who are returning as professional choreographers. Also featured will be the work of guest artist Heidi Henderson of elephant JANE dance company, and work by LCC dance faculty Bonnie Simoa, Sarah Nemecek and Anita Sanford with Dance Northwest. Dance styles range from Hip-Hop to Jazz, Modern and Intermedia productions.

In email interviews, several of the choreographers discussed their pieces. Bonnie Simoa remarked, "In "Running the Sky", we catch a glimpse of whirlwind journey for 11 dancers. At times poetic, other times fierce, this "middleworld" adventure, set to Halvorsen's beautiful Passacaglia for Violin and Violoncello, is a savory feast."

Heidi Henderson's "Leslie for 8" is set to one of Shubert's Improptu's. Clean lines, spare but potent, the piece patiently unfolds a lovely dance, rich in it's simplicity of movement and gesture.

Anita Sanford described the process for creating "BomBom", set to the song BomBom by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Ft. The Teaching, this way: "We simply listened to the song and created movement that felt like the instruments sound. I asked the dancers to describe it and got 'finding peace among struggle', 'battle', 'twinkle', 'life in orchestra', and 'dance behind closed eyes'."

Shannon Knight told us her piece, "Figurine", combines video projection of dance and stop motion animation with live stage choreography. Knight explained: "Sometimes seeing the 'big picture' is nearly impossible. This piece is densely layered with a lot of information on purpose. What catches your attention the most?"

Videos (including choreographer interviews) and still photographs documenting the creative process of several of these works will be posted periodically on the Lane Performing Arts Facebook page, www.facebook.com/LanePerformingArts, beginning Tuesday, February 17.

A reception for the Alumni will be held in the Ragozzino Hall lobby after the performance on Friday night, February 27. Audience members are invited to stay and engage with the choreographers and dancers.

Tickets for Collaborations are $10 general admission, and $8 for students and seniors 55+. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.lanecc.edu/tickets, or at the door the night of the performance. Special rates for groups are available by calling John Watson at 541-463-5161.
