Lane Community College accreditation reaffirmed

Downtown campusEUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College's accreditation has been reaffirmed by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

"The commission agreed with the many commendations we received from the visiting team and concurred with the recommendations," President Mary Spilde announced to the Board of Education and employees last week.

Lane was commended for its emphasis on student success; student support services; strong policy leadership by the board; transparency and integrity; innovative work attracting national distinction in areas such as student success, sustainability, and college leadership; the downtown campus; a comprehensive library; and diligence in addressing student loan default rates. The college was advised to improve performance in four areas relating to planning, institutional effectiveness, assessment of learning outcomes, and program review.

Spilde was encouraged that the recommendations were limited, given that accreditation requires compliance in five broad standards with more than 100 subcategories. In addition, "The commission is not requiring a focused visit, which indicates their confidence that we can fully meet all standards in a timely way."

Lane will provide a report to the commission in two years; expand its next regular Year One report in September to address governance and cultural competence issues; and provide an ad hoc report in spring 2016 on the remaining recommendations.

Information is available on the college's accreditation website at: http://www.lanecc.edu/accreditation

Lane has been accredited by NWCCU since 1968. NWCCU is an independent accrediting authority recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Lane is an AA/EEO/Veterans/Disabilities Employer
