EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College's on campus child care center, Lane Child and Family Center, has achieved a five-star rating in Oregon's Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)—a program to validate and raise the quality and consistency of child care and early learning programs across the state.
Child care providers and early learning programs that participate in the QRIS are evaluated on a range of elements that are essential for quality care and preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. Each program then receives a rating of one to five as well as information about how to access free tools and professional advice to make the program even stronger.
The Lane Child and Family Center is committed to quality care and learning for all children, says coordinator Sue Norton. "We know the first years of life build the foundation for lifelong learning and success. That's why we are among the first child care and early learning programs in the state to participate and receive a QRIS rating."
The CFC is particularly proud of its efforts in the learning and development, health and safety, personnel quality, family engagement, business and administration standard areas. "We have one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the field," says Norton. "We are the only National Association for the Education of Young Children accredited child care center in Lane County. Our program excels in all essential standards that support quality early learning for all children."
The Lane Child and Family Center offers full or part-time care for the children of community, staff and student families. The CFC serves children 2 ½ to 5 years old. Hours are Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information call (541) 463-5517 or visit online at http://www.lanecc.edu/cfe/lcfc
