EUGENE, Ore. - The 10th annual Oregon Jazz Festival will be held at Lane Community College and the University of Oregon Friday and Saturday, January 23 -24. The festival features great jazz concerts on both evenings, and teaching clinics for middle and high school students, as well as college students from around the region during the day on Saturday.
This year's featured clinician will be jazz great Branford Marsalis, whose residency is sponsored in part by the Eugene Symphony. Guest artist-clinicians from jazz teaching programs from around the country will join Marsalis for the Saturday clinics.
The Friday night concert will feature the award-winning Lane Community College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Paul Krueger, and the University of Oregon Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steve Owens, in our traditional Big Band concert. The bands will jam on old standards and fresh, new material with several of our guest artists.
The Saturday night concert this year showcases new, original jazz compositions commissioned especially for the Festival. These works will be performed by the OJF Clinicians Dectet, whose members include:
Mark Taylor, alto saxophone
Steve Owen, tenor saxophone
Jesse Cloninger, baritone saxophone
Paul Mazzio, trumpet
Tony Glausi, trumpet
Dave Glenn, trombone
Jeff Miley, guitar
James Miley, piano
Dave Captein, bass
Jason Palmer, drums
Tickets for both concerts are $20 general admission and $10 for students. Advance tickets are available online at lanecc.edu/tickets. Concerts are in the Ragozzino Performance Hall on the LCC main campus.
Both concerts start at 7:30pm.
