HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE…IN ONE DAY!

The Jan. 10 event will help students and parents find free money for college

image of students at signup deskEUGENE, Ore. - Lane Community College will hold its 16th annual Scholarship Workshops in conjunction with the state's ninth annual College Goal Oregon so that students and parents can, in one day and in one location, complete the federal financial aid application process and access college scholarship resources.

The Scholarship Workshops and College Goal Oregon will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., in the Center for Meeting and Learning, building 19 lobby, main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue.

The event draws about 400 parents, high school students, college students, and community members. This year, Lane welcomes title sponsor, Northwest Community Credit Union.

Participants will learn how to find and compete for scholarships and how to write effective applications. Specific information about Office of Student Access and Completion and Lane Foundation scholarships will be provided. Financial aid professionals will help participants complete the online FAFSA application, so participants should bring their 2013 tax returns and 2014 financial records. A college funding workshop will also be held in Spanish at 12:45 p.m.

To pre-register, go online at Lane Community College's Continuing Education page and just login, go to the search box and type in "How to Pay," and follow the prompts. In addition, people can register at the event.

  • 8:30-9 a.m. - Registration, Welcome, Overview
  • 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. - College Goal Oregon: Meet with financial aid professionals to complete the 2015-2016 FAFSA application. Bring 2013 tax returns and 2014 financial records.
  • 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. – "Be a Competitive Applicant!" Learn resources and strategies for finding scholarships plus how to write quality essays and applications.
  • 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – "Finding Funds for Oregon Students!" Learn how to apply for the Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC) scholarships.
  • 12:45 p.m.- 2:15 p.m. – "Sesión Informativa Acerca de Becas y Ayuda Financiera".
  • 1 p.m.-2:00 p.m. –"Financial Aid Workshop"
