EUGENE, ORE. – The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition, "Structure/Sequence", by artists Erika Beyer and Robin Seloover.
Erika Beyer and Robin Seloover are both faculty within the Department of Art and Applied Design, at Lane Community College. Erika works in painting and design and Robin works in Fiber and design also.
Erika states, "I think of my work as a form of "scientific storytelling." My paintings allow me to play with time and space, speeding up and combining images to show an entire sequence or process in a single illustration. Although I am concerned with scientific accuracy and prefer to draw from live specimens, occasionally my work requires imagination to illustrate subjects rarely seen. I also rely on academic journals, folklore and mythology, and conversations with scientists as part of my design process."
Robin's work, also reflecting nature, takes on a more interpretive form. She states, "Clouds are non-existent in some ways, so immaterial; simply collections of droplets and dust and yet they look so very solid. I find it funny to be constructing solid things from non-sensical materials, somehow trying to mimic vapor. These pieces are explorations in texture, line and form."
The show runs from November 17 to December 10 with an artist lecture on Thursday, November 20 at 2:30 with a reception immediately following. The gallery is located in building 11 on the main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.
