LCC Native American Student Association Powwow set for April 5

EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Community College Native American Student Association invites the public to its annual powwow on Saturday, April 5, in the gymnasium, building 5, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene. Grand entries are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

In the past, the powwow was held the first Saturday in December but this year had to be rescheduled for the first time in its 20-year history due to severe winter weather and road conditions.

Lane's powwow brings participants and spectators from around the Northwest and beyond. The event has facilitated an increase in Native American students attending Lane. In 1991, Lane identified 50 Native American students attending class; today, about 650 Lane students self-identify as Native American.

This powwow is a free event. All drums and dancers are welcome. No alcohol or drugs are permitted.

For more information call Native American Student Program Coordinator James Florendo at (541) 463-5238 or Associate Dean for Student Affairs Barbara Delansky at (541) 463-5337.
