All about Fruit Trees Workshop Feb. 19, at LCC

EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College Small Business Development Center (Lane SBDC) partners with OSU Extension Service and offers workshop "All about Fruit Trees." The three-hour workshop, taught by Ross Penhallegon, will take place Wednesday, February 19, from 6-9 pm, in Building 17, Room 309, on the LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.

There is huge potential for impressive fruit grown in your backyard, for personal use or grown in a larger area, as a commercial venture. The Willamette Valley is a great place to grow tree fruits, but some are more difficult to grow than others. Whether you are a homeowner with a few trees or a small-acreage farmer planting an orchard, this class will teach you how to successfully grow trees in this region. The workshop will cover information about apples, prunes/plums, pears, cherries and peaches. Learn what you should know about rootstocks, spacing, soils, irrigation, fertility, site selection, plant problems and insects. The instructor, Ross Penhallegon, is well-known in the field of horticulture for his work with the OSU Extension Service Master Gardener Program.
