EUGENE, Ore.—Lane Community College expects to fill the 498-seat Ragozzino Hall on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for the keynote presentation by acclaimed television, film and stage actor Giancarlo Esposito.
The event will be Monday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lane Community College Ragozzino Performance Hall, Building 6, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
The event is free but tickets are limited to two per request due to limited seating capacity. Tickets are available by e-mailing evansg@lanecc.edu
Ticket requests confirmed through e-mail will be available at the door on the day of the event. Walk-up tickets will not be available.
Recommended parking is in the northeast lot accessible from the Eldon Schafer Drive entrance to main campus off 30th Avenue near the I-5 interchange (map available online at Campus locations ).
Pedestrians on campus should watch for construction on the north and west sides of the nearby Center Building and follow all safety and directional signs.
Lane students brought the MLK community celebration back to campus this year after founding the event in 1987 and sponsoring the celebration ever since. This year's MLK celebration commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Sponsors are Lane Community College and Black Student Union, Associated Students of Lane Community College, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, Asian Pacific Islander Student Union, and Gender and Sexuality Alliance. Community co-sponsors are the Lane County MLK Celebration Committee and the City of Eugene Human Rights Commission.
Lane also is a co-sponsor of the Eugene/Springfield NAACP Annual Community MLK March which begins at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 at the Science Factory parking lot near Autzen Stadium. Esposito co-stars in the NBC hit drama series, "Revolution," as Major Tom Neville. He is also known for his iconic portrayal of drug kingpin Gustavo "Gus" Fring in AMC's award-winning series "Breaking Bad," for which he won the 2012 Critics Choice Award and earned a 2012 Emmy nomination (see attached biography).
