EUGENE, Ore.— Here's your chance to bag up old, unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs and drop them off at Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside Building 19 on the LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene.
This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of medications. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Any prescription medication except chemotherapy drugs or sharps can be dropped off. Liquids should be tightly closed. Pet meds are okay.
"This is the best way to keep prescription drugs out of the waste stream, and out of the wrong hands," says LCC Public Safety Chief Jace Smith. "Every year people drive by and see our collection bins and say they wished they'd known, because they've been wondering what to do with their old antibiotics and other prescriptions."
The Drug Enforcement Agency sponsors Take Back Day twice a year nationally and collects and incinerates the materials. At last April's event in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska, 33,500 pounds of prescription drugs were collected. Nationally, 2.8 million drugs have been collected since the program began three years ago.
