Shakespeare Showcase at LCC June 8

picture of two actors in dress rehearsalEUGENE, OR - The Spring Shakespeare Showcase will be presented at the Blue Door Theatre, Lane Community College Saturday, June 8, at 1:00 and 7:00 P.M., Building 6, on the main campus. (Note the early matinee.)

Admission is free. Seating is open. Audience members must be 10 years or older to be admitted.

The Showcase appeals to fans of Shakespeare and those who just might enjoy a colorful array of his stories and characters. The program of short scenes and monologues is described by director Judith Roberts as "a pot pourri of passions and follies."

Guitarist Dave Rogers will play Renaissance musical interludes. Assistant Acting coach is Joe Cronin.

The students' seeds of interest are cultivated in the Acting Shakespeare and Shakespeare Literature classes.

Showcase performers vary in age, backgrounds and experience. The performers include current students, community actors, and returnees from years past.

The Showcase pieces provide the context of many age-old expressions that became embedded in everyday English. The actors relish the language, and work to make it comprehensible to the audience.

Scheduled for the program are pieces from Titus Andronicus, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Macbeth, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello, Julius Caesar, Richard II, Richard III, and Henry V.

The quarterly Showcase is produced by Student Productions Association. All donations are used to support the continuing efforts of the (SPA).
